Dallas boutique adds three lawyers to its commercial litigation group

DALLAS – Litigation boutique Estes Thorne & Carr PLLC is pleased to announce that three commercial litigation attorneys have joined the firm, including new partner Tonya Johannsen, former general counsel of The Beck Group.

Ms. Johannsen will focus on clients in the construction, architecture, financial and real estate sectors. Her work includes negotiations of construction and architectural contracts as well as identification and implementation of strategic risk mitigation strategies for her clients.   Additionally, she is renowned for her success in handling complex commercial and financial institution litigation, business torts, foreclosures, compliance, insurance coverage and appellate matters. She also provides strategic business guidance and outside general counsel services.

As GC for The Beck Group, Ms. Johannsen managed all legal functions for the firm’s regional and Mexico City offices. That included wide-ranging matters involving such high-profile construction projects as the soon-to-be completed multipurpose Dickie’s Arena in Fort Worth.

“Tonya is an exceptional attorney with an innate understanding of the issues facing businesses,” said managing partner Jessica Thorne. “She spearheaded the evolution of Beck’s legal department, redefining that group’s functions in a truly innovative way that mirrors our firm’s approach to client matters.”

Also joining the Dallas-based firm is associate Ana Forcum. Labor and employment partner Monica Narvaez joined the firm earlier this summer.

Ms. Forcum, a litigator who previously worked within a large in-house legal department, has experience handling matters that include property damage to company utilities, personal injury defense and business and residential contract disputes. Her current practice also includes business strategy development aimed at managing risk exposure.

Ms. Narvaez is a senior certified professional with the Society for Human Resource Management (“SHRM”). She has extensive experience advising and defending clients in a variety of labor and employment matters, including the Fair Labor Standards Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, OSHA and Americans with Disabilities Act policies and procedures. She previously served as Assistant Attorney General in Ohio where she defended state and county agencies in complex employment disputes.

Entering its 11th year, Estes Thorne & Carr’s collaborative team of highly experienced attorneys represents clients in commercial litigation, family law, construction, ERISA litigation, labor and employment, and appellate matters. A Women’s Business Enterprise National Council-certified business, Estes Thorne & Carr is one of the largest women-owned law firms in the Southwest.
